Sustainable Maryland

The town of Glen Echo is participating in the Sustainable Maryland certification program that prioritizes the health of the environment, communities, and local economies. This certification and association with Sustainable Maryland will ensure Glen Echo is one of Maryland's leading towns in sustainability. Click here to learn more!

Pepco

Between April and May, Pepco gives away 1000 free trees to customers in order to help them conserve energy and lower utility costs. Choose from a one-gallon Redbud, Crepe Myrtle, River Birch, Red Oak, or Red Maple tree, and it will be delivered to your home between April and May. To learn more about Pepco's unique Arbor Day initiative click here

Pepco also has resources for residents looking to incorporate sustainability into their home and save money while saving energy. Click here for information and discounts on Energy Star approved lighting, appliances, and homes. 

Residential Solar

The Residential Solar program through the Maryland Energy Administration provides residents the opportunity to buy subscriptions for solar energy derived from their communities. This community solar model affords participants the same economic benefits as having solar panels directly on their houses! Grant funding is available for all participants, but low to moderate income resident subscribers are afforded greater incentives. Click here to see if this program is right for you!

Green Montgomery County

Green Montgomery County is a site that helps Montgomery County residents connect to their neighbors, communities, and local ecosystems through sustainability initiatives. This site features tips for consuming less meat, sustainability related community events, tips on small or large scale home projects to reduce waste and improve energy efficiency, links to relevant county programs, and much more! RainScapes Rewards Program

RainScapes refer to landscaping that slows and cleans stormwater runoff, preventing it from polluting our waterways. As a town, the Glen Echo Green Team is working to increase awareness and presence of RainScapes throughout the town, and more information about these efforts can be found in the "Projects" section. This is part of a county-wide initiative to encourage ecologically friendly landscaping, and information about the Montgomery County initiative can be found here, along with information about financial assistance and rewards rebates.
